Stripped lawn to finished sod in Beddington Heights
Most of a sod replacement happens before the sod arrives. On this Beddington Heights front yard, the old lawn came out with our Bobcat MT100 first thing. The ground was regraded so surface water runs off instead of sitting, topped with screened topsoil and raked out by hand. The sod went on last, with staggered seams and trimmed edges, and it was rolled the same afternoon.

How the lawn came out and went back in, in one day
- Strip. Took the old front lawn out with our Bobcat MT100 and hauled it away.
- Grade. Did minor regrading so surface water runs off the lawn instead of sitting on it.
- Topsoil. Spread screened topsoil and finish-raked it by hand.
- Roll the base. Rolled the prepared soil before any sod went down, so soft spots showed up while they were still easy to fix.
- Sod. Laid the sod with staggered seams and trimmed it neatly to the walk and beds.
- Roll. Rolled the new lawn for full contact with the soil, then cleaned up.

Why roll the soil before the sod goes down?
Rolling the prepared soil shows up soft spots and footprints while they're still easy to fix. Sod laid on soil that hasn't been firmed settles unevenly, and the dips show in the new lawn weeks later.
